How to Get the Most Enjoyment Out of your Non-Alcoholic Red Wine

Dealcoholized wine has come a long way in recent years, and most people can agree that sparkling wines are nearly indistinguishable from their alcoholic counterparts.

Non-alcoholic red wines are more complex and have not reached that level yet. In the meantime, it’s important to understand that dealcoholized wine will be different from alcoholic wine,  and learn to appreciate it for its complex and tannic flavour, rather than wish it tasted exactly like its alcoholic counterpart.

That being said, there are many things you can do in order to get the most enjoyment out of your Alcohol-Free Red Wine.

1) Chill it: Refrigerating the wine before pouring will help lift those delicate aromas that sometimes can get a little lost during the dealcoholization process.

2) Have it with food: Dealcoholized wine will really shine when it’s accompanying a meal and will help make the whole experience feel more authentic.

3) Decant it: Most non-alcoholic wines should be treated the same way you would treat alcoholic wine. Decanting your wine for 1-2 hours before serving will help oxygenate it and bring out more character.

4) Add some aromatic bitters: Adding a couple of drops of aromatic bitters will give your red alcohol-free wine more depth and roundness. We love Bark & Bitter Aromatic Bitters for this.

5) Appreciate it for what it is: With dealcoholized red wine, you tend to get more natural grape flavour and sweetness because the alcohol is not there to mask it. You still get complexity, depth and tannins, but they will taste different to alcoholic reds - because they are!
